Professor William Toffler – Emphasizing care, not assisted killing

Guest: Professor William Toffler
On October 27, 1997 Oregon enacted the Death with Dignity Act which allows terminally-ill Oregonians to end their lives through the voluntary self-administration of lethal medications, expressly prescribed by a physician for that purpose.

Around Australia, we could be as close as a couple of months away from having legalised euthanasia in states like NSW and Victoria.

20 years on from the introduction of the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon, one of my colleagues, Caleb Stephens, spoke with Professor William Toffler of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), about his views on euthanasia, in particular, as he encourages us not to make Oregon’s mistake here in Australia.
